The benefits (or not) of the living wage

The living wage of £7.20 per hour came into effect on Friday 1st April for employees aged 25 and over but how does this affect employers and how does this benefit employees?

On my drive to work this morning the media are still talking about how employees will have an extra 50p per hour in their pay packet but this is not strictly true.

What do you love about being in business?

At our February Monday Business Contacts meeting which was close to Valentine's Day our discussion topic, was "What do you love about being in business?". Our brief discussions each month are an opportunity to share business thoughts, ideas and motivate others. Being a business owner can be lonely and connecting with others socially once a month can be a really helpful way of sharing good and bad times and being reminded why being in business for yourself was such a good idea.

Recruiting the right candiate

As a growing business building our team to support other businesses is one of the pleasures of being a business owner. You get to choose who becomes part of your team and that is a fantastic opportunity. I have not had experience of recruiting before but I have managed to build a great team of people who are a pleasure to work with and who enjoy working with each other.
