VAT deferment period is finished

During the current crisis HMRC has allowed VAT registered businesses to defer paying their VAT liability for the period between 20 March and 30 June 2020. This deferment applied to VAT periods ending 29 February, 31 March and 30 April where payments would be due by 7 April, 7 May and 7 June.
 
 That deferment period is now finished

Employing for the first time?

Although lockdown has restricted business for many, as a payroll provider to a large number of businesses I know that some businesses have been taking on new employees over this period.
 
 There will also be individuals who have used this time to start their own business and will be planning for the costs involved in taking on their first employee as the business grows. 
 
 So if you are a potential new employer here are some points you need to think about along with the costs you need to plan for.

Will flexible furlough help your business?

We are about to start our fourth month of calculating furlough pay for employers who have been furloughing staff on and off since early March. From 1st July we will have an even more challenging set of calculations if employers have employees working some of their normal hours and furloughing them the rest.
 
 We will be able to do the calculations but how well will flexible furlough work for small businesses?

Do you have a disaster recovery plan?

One night last week a fire broke out in a building next to the office where my son works. Everything in the office was destroyed and the building will have to be repaired. Due to the current situation staff were already working remotely so work could continue without too much delay.
 
 A situation such as this would come as a massive shock to all business owners who have their own premises and highlights
