More Penalties for Employers

Earlier this month the Government's Department for Business named another 197 employers who have not paid their workers the National Minimum Wage making a total of 687 since the scheme to publicly name and shame employers was introduced in October 2013. These employers between them owed their employees £3.5 million.

What you should know when calculating pay for your leaver

When an employee hands in their notice the first thing you will think about is how you are going to manage without them and how you are going to find a replacement soon enough for your leaving employee to train them. Most small businesses will not have sufficient resources to have trained a "spare" and unless it is a role you don't need to replace you will probably have a very short handover period or even a gap between employees.

Changes to tax-free childcare

A couple of years ago the Government announced a Tax-Free Childcare scheme and have recently announced this will launch sometime in 2017. Under this scheme eligible families will be given 20% of their annual childcare costs by the Government. Parents will have to create a Childcare Account and for every 80p they pay into it they will receive 20p from the Government.
